How long takes the residence permit (visa extension) procedure?

Our law firm SERS can only submit your file if every information is filled out in the online form and if all the required documents are correctly uploaded from your side.

Students with address registration in Berlin:

Along to the current decisions taken by the Immigration authorities, SERS can submit your file 2 months before the visa/ 90 days expiry date to the Immigration Office Berlin (LEA).

If your visa expiry date/ 90 days is longer than 2 months away, you can still subscribe and fill out the online form, but we will start the procedure only 2-3 months before the expiry date and check if your information and documents are correct and up to date. 

Once your file is complete and we submit your file to the Immigration Office, we receive an individual notification for you from the Immigration Office that you remain legal in Germany until a decision is made, even if your current entry visa/ 90 days expire during the waiting time. The Immigration office notification also states that you keep your current work rights if they have been issued with your entry visa (procedural time estimated by the Immigration Office is approx. 6-12 weeks at this moment)

Students with address registration in Potsdam:

Along to the current decisions taken by the Immigration authorities, SERS can submit your file 4 months before the visa/ 90 days expiry date to the Immigration Office Potsdam.

If your visa expiry date is longer than 4 months away, you can still subscribe and fill out the online form, but we will start the procedure only 4-5 months before the expiry date and check if your information and documents are correct and up to date. 

Once your file is complete, we can request an appointment for you from the Immigration Office in Potsdam, to keep you legal in Germany even if your entry visa/ 90 days would expire until an appointment is available. The Immigration office informs us about your appointment so that we can invite you by email (procedural time estimated by the Immigration Office is approx. 6-12 weeks at this moment)
